What is dry ice blasting?

Dry ice blasting is a form of media blasting, where pressurized dry ice is used similarly to sand or soda blasting. Dry ice blasting is non-abrasive, non-conductive, non-flammable, and non-toxic. Dry ice blasting can be used for a variety of applications, but industrial equipment and vehicle undercarriages are some of the more popular applications.

What is dry ice?

Dry ice is a solid-state of carbon dioxide CO₂ with a temperature of -79° C. Carbon dioxide is found in gaseous form in nature. It is non-toxic and odorless. It is used to saturate drinks, which gives them a fresh taste and prolongs their consumption.

Can dry ice blasting remove rust?

If you have a lot of rust under your vehicle, then dry ice blasting could be an effective method to remove it. Dry ice blasting removes all loosely adhering oxidation and salts but does not remove deeply adhering oxidation.

How does it work exactly?

The cleaning process uses three basic factors: kinetic energy, thermal shock, and sublimation. At the end of the process, there is only the dirt removed and no further secondary waste, like for example in the case of sandblasting. This makes this method of dry ice cleaning effective, gentle to cleaned materials, and at the same time also environmentally friendly.
